Tahsildar arrested for demanding bribe

The Vigilance and Anti Corruption police today arrested Tahsildar of Nilakottai Mohan for allegedly demanding and taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 from one Mahesmoorthy, an sand trader, for releasing his tractor.

The Tahsildhar, who had been remanded to Judicial custody for 15 days by the Nilakottai Judicial Magistrate, had demanded the bribe from Maheshmoorthy for releasing his tractor seized by the local revenue divisional officer for illegal sand mining from a tank at Pallapatti near here.

Earlier the RDO had ordered Maheshmoorthy to pay a fine of Rs 25000 and get his tractor released. He had paid the money yesterday and had gone to the Tahsildhar with the challan, for making the payment, when the Tahsildhar demanded the bribe for releasing the tractor.
 

Upset by the demand for more money, Maheshmoorthy lodged a complaint with the DSP of vigilance and Anti Corruption.
