Tamil tourist drowns in river

A 40-year-old tourist from Tamil Nadu drowned in a river at Pahalgam in south Kashmir's Anantnag district, police said here today.

Lilit Kumar, a resident of Chennai of Tamil Nadu drowned in the Lidder river at Betab Valley in Pahalgam area yesterday, a police spokesman said.

He said Kumar was rescued from the water and rushed to a hospital, where he breathed his last.

The body of the deceased was handed over to his relatives for last rites, the spokesman said.
