The Thane district court here today rejected the anticipatory bail applications of three godown owners who are facing criminal cases for hoarding pulses.

Daighar police in the district had last month raided godowns in the Shil-Daighar area and registered cases under the Essential Commodities Act against Ajay Shah, Prashant Chandalay and Rohit J Agarwal.

Stocks worth Rs 243 crore had been seized from several godowns in the area.

Additional public prosecutor Buleshwar Hinge said prima facie it seemed that these traders had hoarded pulses during the festival period when the demand had peaked and there was a shortage in the market.

Additional sessions judge H M Patwardhan rejected the pre-arrest bail pleas of all three of them.
