The long-awaited spin-off of the popular sitcom "The Big Bang Theory" is officially on.

Titled as "Young Sheldon", CBS has ordered the new show straight to series for the 2017-2018 series, reported Entertainment Weekly.

The programme will be created by Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro from "TBBT" which will follow the life of a nine-year-old Sheldon Cooper living with his family in East Texas and going to high school.

"Young Sheldon" stars Iain Armitage as Sheldon Cooper, who can be currently seen playing Shailene Woodley's son in HBO's "Big Little Lies".

While the original Sheldon, Jim Parsons will narrate the series, Jon Favreau is all set to direct the first episode of the spin-off.
