Theft in temple: Ornaments stolen

Thieves broke into the Uma Maheshwara temple in Attavar near here and escaped with articlesworth more than Rs 2 lakh, police said today.

The theft came to light when children arrived at the temple for early morning prayers.

The stolen items include the Vigraha Kavacha of the presiding deity Shiva apart from the silver ornaments on the idols of Lord Ganapathi, Krishna and Vishnumurthi.

The thieves, who entered the temple breaking the main door lock, had destroyed two CCTV cameras and covered another with a cloth so that their act was not caught on camera.

Police sniffer dogs and finger print experts were pressed into service to look for evidences.
