Three persons were killed and four others injured in a freak accident in a collision between a car and van at a village near Kotammpatti in the district today, police said.
The driver of the car, proceeding towards Madurai, lost control of his vehicle due to tyre burst, hit the median, crossed to the opposite lane of the Madurai-chennai highway and collided with the Maruthi van going towards Tiruchirapalli, they said.
The driver and a six year old girl of the van and an old woman travelling in the car to Madurai were killed in the accident, police said.
The occupants of the van including a woman Azhagusundari, and her daughters Sudha(13)and Surya(10) and Swetha(6)were were proceeding towards Tiruchirapalli to receive her husband who was coming from Singapore, when the accident took place.
The injured were hospitalised, they said.
