TMC brutalised democracy in Bengal: Biman Bose

Press Trust of India Kolkata
Accusing the Trinamool Congress of insulting S R Upadhyay which forced him to resign as State Election Commissioner, West Bengal Left Front Chairman Biman Bose today said democracy was "brutalised" in the state during the October 3 civic polls.

"The resignation of SEC (on October 6) projects a gory picture of how TMC has been pressurising him to act on their whims and fancy. The TMC leaders have insulted the SEC so much that he was forced to step down," Bose told reporters here.

He said democracy was "brutalised and undermined" during the October 3 municipal polls and the SEC could "neither ensure it became free and fair nor did it have an answer why people should not be able to vote".

Referring to Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad results in which the Left emerged victorious, Bose said wherever people have been allowed to vote freely they have voted against TMC.

"The results show how people in Bengal are angry with the TMC," he said.
