UN chief names veteran diplomat to be Lebanon envoy

UN has appointed Jan Kubis, who has led UN missions in and Afghanistan, to be the new UN in Lebanon, the UN announced Wednesday.

Kubis, a former of Slovakia, will take over from of Denmark, who was since November 2017.

The appointment comes amid tensions between and Lebanon, where the has deployed a peacekeeping force to monitor the border.
