Senior Samajwadi party leader Azam Khan today claimed that the Uttar Pradesh government was more competent than the Centre in cleaning the Ganga river.

"We are more competent and quick in completing the Ganga cleaning project than the union government but Modi Ji never bothered to avail the prompt services of the UP government," he said.

Addressing a rally here, the UP minister hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for "neglecting and choking" the growth of the state.

"We have been putting in our hard labor to implement various developmental schemes and forwarding proposals but Modi government treat those with cruel neglect and apathy, thus chocking the welfare of the state," he charged.

While calling Modi a "Thagi" (cheat), Khan praised UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav for not faltering on the promises made by the Samajwadi party in its election manifesto.

"The UP government headed by Akhilesh Yadav has fulfilled most of the promises mentioned in our election manifesto. Modi Ji had very loudly promised 'Achche Din' but political experts later termed it a 'Chunavi Bayeda' or an election stunt," he said.

The SP leader also accused the saffron party of provoking the sentiments of the masses by spreading hatred among the communities.

Khan also took a jibe at the UP Governor alleging that Raj Bhawan is being transformed in to "Rajneeti Bhawan".

Governor Ram Naik has been accused of siding with the BJP by the state government.
