UP govt presents Rs 14,856 cr supplementary demand for grants

With an emphasis on power, rural development and infrastructure sectors, the Uttar Pradesh government today tabled supplementary grants totalling Rs 14,856.14 crore in the Vidhan Sabha.

The grants were tabled by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, who also holds the finance ministry portfolio.

In the supplementary grant for the financial year 2014-15, a provision of more than Rs 3,925 crore has been made for power department.

This includes Rs 800 crore to compensate operation loss and an additional Rs 143 crore for payment of interest on bonds issued by the distribution companies.

Another provision of Rs 540 crore has been made to compensate actual operational loss caused to the power companies.
 

An additional provision of Rs 600 crore has been made to strengthen distribution network so as to ensure 16 to 18 hours power supply in rural areas and 22 to 24 hours in urban areas by 2016-17.

A provision of Rs 1,558 crore has been earmarked for public works department, which include Rs 150 crore for Ram Saran Das Gram Sadak Yojna, named after former SP leader.

Another 1,398 crore have been allocated for rural development, which include Rs 670 crore for Lohia Gramin Awas Yojna and Rs 468 crore for Indira Awas Yojna, besides Rs 60 crore for Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act scheme.

For urban development, a provision of Rs 592 crore has been made, including Rs 62 crore for infrastructure development and improvement of Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's constituency and Rs 18 crore for development works around Maulana Ali Jauhar University, a pet project of cabinet minister Mohd Azam Khan.

Under agriculture head, a provision of Rs 374 crore has been made, which include Rs 65 crore for national crop insurance scheme.

For sports department, a provision of Rs 30.4 crore has been given, which include an additional requirement of Rs 10 crore for stadium at Sefai, the native place of SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Under health, a provision of Rs 174 crore has been made for medical colleges in the state, besides Rs 50 crore for Rural Institute of Medical Sciences at Sefai.

In addition to this, a provision of Rs 229 crore has been made for Samajwadi Swasthya Sewa.

A provision of Rs 5 crore has been made for lion breeding centre at Etawah, an ambitiouis project of Akhilesh Yadav and Rs 25 crore for bird sanctuary at Mainpuri, the SP bastion.

For irrigation department a provision of Rs 961.5 crore has been made.

A provision of Rs 100 crore for inner road has been made in the form of loan to Agra Development Authority.
