A 50-year-old-man was charred to death after he came into contact with a high tension wire lying on the road, leading to protest by locals here.

According to police, the incident occurred last night when a high tension cable wire hanging over a busy city area snapped and fell on the road.

The victim identified as Ajay Aggarwal was electrocuted while trying to remove the wire from his two-wheeler. He was immediately rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead by doctors, police said today.

The victim's brother Sanjay fell unconscious upon witnessing the incident and suffered minor injuries.

Angered by the incident, the locals staged a protest by blocking roads and shutting their shops. They demanded action against the authorities concerned.

Police have sent the body for post-mortem. Meanwhile, the electricity department is investigating the matter.
