Managing Director of state-run Malabar Cements here was arrested today by the Vigilance department on charges of alleged corruption and irregularities in the company.
He was arrested after summoning to Vigilance office for questioning in connection with the alleged irregularities in allotting dealership, import of clinker and procurement of raw materials, Vigilance sources said.
Vigilance had earlier registered FIR against Padmakumar in four cases related to corruption in the company.

Padmakumar was arrested, as he was responsible for all the dealings as Managing Director, the sources said.
He would be produced in Vigilance Court in Thrissur and seek custody of him.
Sources said that this was for the first time that Vigilance was seeking custodial interrogation of an accused in corruption cases.
The case was initiated by the Vigilance on a complaint filed by a former employee of the company and an outfit that worked for the protection of public sector undertaking.
Vigilance had conducted a quick verification of the complaint and submitted a report in the court.
