The sleuths of Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) today caught red-handed the in-charge of Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Balia in Begusarai district of Bihar while allegedly accepting Rs 20,000 as bribe.

Vigilance officials said the PHC in-charge Dr Arun Kumar Gupta was demanding Rs 1 lakh from one Dharmendra Kumar of Sonepur in Saran district for paying the housekeeping and food bills. The services were availed by the PHC and its staff.

"Kumar complained to us. It was found to be true when we verified the matter. During our verification Gupta agreed to do the work by taking Rs 20,000 as the first installment," said a vigilance official.

Accordingly a trap team was constituted under the leadership of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mohammad Ali Ansari. It arrested Gupta while receiving the graft at his private clinic at Patel Chowk in Balia.

The arrested doctor has been brought to Patna for interrogation, and will be produced in the vigilance court later on.

VIB has conducted 71 traps in 2014 so far and arrested 75 government officials on bribery charges.
