The Goa unit of Shiv Sena has urged the state government to weed out the mentality resembling demon 'Narakasura' from the Public Works Department (PWD) which are resulting into the poor condition of roads.

Goa has the tradition of burning 'narakasura' effigies as part of Diwali celebrations.

"As we are all ready to set on fire effigies of demon Narakasura to mark the occasion of Diwali, Shiv Sena also wishes the mentality of 'Narakasura', which has been gaining roots in our political system," Sena's state spokesman Rakhi Naik said in a statement released here.

She said that while Sena has been raising various issues, on this occasion, the party would like to bring to the attention the grave issue about the dilapidated condition of the roads.

Referring to the statement by state PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar, who has appealed the people not to glorify 'Narakasura', she said that Shiv Sena also appeals Dhavalikar to follow the same by weeding out 'Narakasura' mentality in his department, "which has left these roads pothole-ridden causing several accident resulting in many people losing their lives and many getting injured badly".

"I wish that Dhavalikar will target this 'Narakasura' mentality by ordering his department, first to inquire into the bad road conditions and also take up the work of repairing them on war footing," Naik said.

Sena has said that Dhavalikar should point out 'Narakasuras' amongst the officials from his own department, who have been compromising with the quality of roads to make money to fill their own pockets.

"Also all the 'Narakasura' contractors who have been executing poor works should be blacklisted," Naik added.
