Two days after announcing that Rashtriya Lok Dal will go alone in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections next year, its chief Chaudhary Ajit Singh today said the party will fight for the rights of farmers, backward and minority communities.
"Uttar Pradesh is the 'karam bhoomi' of (Ram Manohar) Lohia and Charan Singh...It is the need of the hour that people and parties having faith in the policies and leadership of these great men work together...Come on one platform, leaving behind differences", he was quoted as saying in a party release.
"I appeal to the parties and groups of individuals having similar ideology to resolve to work together in this hour of crisis so as to provide an effective platform for farmers, backwards and minorities for getting their rights," he said.
The RLD chief alleged that sections of the society, for whom these two leaders have "fought all their lives", are today the "most neglected". People belonging to these sections are facing immense hardships and committing suicide.
"Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Sharad Yadav are the followers of Charan Singh and the good governance there reminds us of Chaudhary sahab (Charan Singh)," he said.
RLD chief Ajit Singh has his influence in western region of the state. On Thursday, he had announced that his party will fight the state polls next year alone projecting his son Jayant Chaudhary as its face. RLD will hold a series of meeting in eastern and central Uttar Pradesh next month.
