Woman kills son and commits suicide near Vadodara

A young woman allegedly killed her one-year-old son before committing suicide in Indiranagar Vasahat in Dashrath village on the outskirts of the city today.

She took the extreme step after her husband failed to buy her a 'mangalsutra' (wedding necklace), the police said.

"I had promised to buy her a 'mangalsutra' in a couple of months after I made arrangements for the money," her husband said.

The incident happened when he was out of the house getting a haircut at a saloon.

The dead bodies have been sent to the hospital for post mortem.

Statements of the woman's parents would also be recorded as part of investigations, the police said.
