Woman tries to commit suicide after tiff with husband

A 39-year-old woman tried to commit suicide today by consuming phenyle after her husband scolded her for not keeping fast on Karwa Chauth in Kalyanpuri area of East Delhi, police said.

Mahesh Kumari, who married Vijay, in 1991 and has four children, had a tiff with her husband on Sunday, following which she did not observe fast today on Karwa Chauth.

This further irked Vijay who once again rebuked her. Following a heated argument, after which Kumari consumed phenyl at around 11:30 am and felt unconscious, said a senior police official.

The woman was taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital where she was undergoing treatment. Her family alleged Vijay forced her to consume phenyl, police said.
 

Police have recorded the statement of the victim and an FIR has been lodged in this case. Vijay, who is a daily wage labourer, may be arrested in the case, police said.
