Faithful from several parts of the country and abroad thronged the Church here to take part in special mass and prayers on the occasion of Christmas.
The church authorities had put up a huge pandal in a 60,000 square feet area in the premises of Shrine Basilica to accommodate up to 30,000 pilgrims at a time. The pandal had been decorated with multi-colour papers and illuminated.
Similarly, hundreds of devotees participated in the special prayers at the New Jerusalem Church at Tarangambadi, the oldest protestant Church in Asia. The church was built by Ziegenbalg in 1718.
