The S&P 500 was up 9.13 points, or 0.43 percent, at 2,146.29, topping the high of 2143.16 hit on Monday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 68.35 points, or 0.37 percent, at 18,295.28 and the Nasdaq Composite was up 29.37 points, or 0.59 percent, at 5,018.00.
