..May Provide Gas To Tanir Bavi

Tanir Bavi Power Company, which has a 220-mw barge-mounted power project near Mangalore, may become the first power project to get gas from Petronet.

An official of Tanir Bavi Power Company said that both the companies will sign a memorandum of understanding shortly for gas supply.

The official said the company was willing to share the cost of the pipeline from Kasargod to the project site. The promoters of the power project, GMR Vasavi, recently won a case against the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (KPTCL) with the high court directing the state government to operationalise the escrow account through its state electricity board for the project. The Karnataka government had earlier decided to stop giving escrow cover to all power projects in the state following recommendations from a state-sponsored committee which ruled against such moves.
