Bhansali Grilled, Premises Of Co-Accused Raided

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) yesterday questioned C R Bhansali, the prime accused in the Rs 1200-crore CRB scam, after having raided the residences of five persons accused in connection with a case of fraud worth about Rs 2.44 crore.
Bhansali, who was re-arrested along with his wife Manjula here on Wednesday and remanded to custody till February 27, and four others have been charged by the CBI for causing a loss of Rs 2.44 crore to Bank of Baroda in sanctioning of interest payable at par facility to CRB Capital Markets Limited.
It is a case similar to that of State Bank of India, a CBI official said.

Bhansali, Manjula, Ashwin Shah (senior vice-president of CRB Caps), K D Shetty (former chief manager BOB Capital Markets Ltd) and A D Menenzes (assistant general manager BOB Capital Markets) are alleged to have conspired to cheat the bank of interest and brokerage warrants during 1993-94.
A CBI spokesman in New Delhi said searches were conducted at the residential premises of the accused and several documents were seized. Investigation was continuing, he added.
