Canada Auto Union Chooses Gm As Next Bargaining Target

One day after CAW members overwhelmingly ratified a tentative agreement reached last week with Chrysler Corp's Canadian unit, the union said it is now set to do battle to ensure the terms will be applied to any labour deal with General Motors Canada.
GM will accept the pattern, CAW president Buzz Hargrove told a news conference on Monday. The only question is when.
But GM lead negotiator, Dean Munger, said he hoped to craft an agreement tailored to GM's own business plans, which include decisions to sell two plants and contract out more than 5,000 CAW jobs.
We have to take a look at our business plan and see how that fits in line with what Chrysler did, Munger said.
Hargrove asserted that GM is mistaken if it believes the deal on outsourcing with Chrysler was tied to a business plan or if GM believes it can change the language of the deal.
They think somehow Chrysler's decision (agreement) was tied to their business plan and that's absolute hogwash, Hargrove said. They wanted to tailor it to the business plan and we detached it from the business plan.
