Coffee Board Plans Futures Exchange

The Coffee Board will consult industry leaders and experts to set up a futures market on the lines of the international pepper exchange at Kochi, to function as a complementary to the existing domestic physical market.
The board had called for a meeting of such a group on May 12 here, Board chairman Philipose Matthai told reporters here yesterday.
The exchange may be developed into an international exchange on the lines of the Singapore exchange, he said.
Matthai said the proposed market would not be a government-run organisation. About the financial implications, he said the ICICI Banking Corporation had expressed its desire to pool in the equity, besides other FIs.
