Deutsche Bank To Expand Business In Japan

The bank is also ready to support Japanese companies as they expand into Asian markets, he added.
"Deutsche Bank AG ranks among the top of the league of foreign bank branches in Japan in terms of ordinary earnings and assets," Ulrich Cartellieri, a member of the board of managing directors of Deutsche Bank AG, told newsmen.
This is despite fierce competition from Japanese banks and other international banks, he said.
Asked whether the bank would begin offering retail banking services in Japan, he ruled out such a possibilty.
"You will find that Deutsche Bank is not even operating retail networks in its neighbouring countries in Europe," he said.

He was speaking at a ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the bank's Tokyo branch.
"So, in the sense of retail networks at least, (as) in Germany...it is not the kind of business that we will look at," he said, adding that starting such an operation in Japan would require restructuring of the bank.
Japan's economy and financial sectors are recovering, he said, adding further structural adjustments should be accelerated.
