Digboi Refinery Units Shut For Second Day

Production in all units of the Digboi refinery continued to be suspended for the second day yesterday, following a major fire in the paraffin unit of the worlds oldest refinery on Friday, Indian Oil Corporation sources here said.

Restoration work was on in full swing and few more days would be required for normal functioning of the 0.75 million tonne capacity refinery, the sources added.

The fire caused extensive damages to the unit and forcing the authorities to suspend production in other units of the refinery owned by the Assam Oil division of the IOC.

The loss was initially estimated to be about rs one crore.

 

The blaze did not spread to other units of the refinery and no casualty was reported, the sources added.

Short circuit was said to be the cause of the fire but sabotage could not be ruled out though the actual cause was yet to ascertained, the sources said.
