Ensure Fair Poll In Bengal, Ec Urged

The Congress had asked the Election Commission to take immediate steps to ensure free and fair elections in West Bengal in the wake of violence in Panskura Lok Sabha constituency in the state in which 14 persons belonging to the CPM and the Trinamool Congress have died. All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Oscar Fernandes yesterday took a delegation to the Commission to draw the attention of the Commission to the large scale group claeshes in Panskura.

West Bengal is having local bodies elections this month end and first week of the next month. By elections to the Panskura Lok Sabha constituency is also being held in the first week of next month.

 

The party is also sending a delegation to Tripura to assess the situation there in the wake of largescale violence by the tribal separatist organisations.

Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has asked the Centre to send in the Army to help tide over the situation.
