Geometric Angles For Overseas Business

Geometric Software Pvt Ltd. (GSSL), an Indian company specialising in CAD/CAM software services and technologies, and Structural Dynamics Research Corporation, a leading US-based international supplier of CAD/CAM software and engineering services, have signed an agreement under which the Indian company will develop software for the US firm.

For GSSL, the agreement heralds a new phase of expansion and growth in the US. Later this year, the company will also start its Indian subsidiary company in North America, Geometric Software Services Inc. GSSL will be involved in developing the technologies that the US outfit will sell in a market that is considered strategically important.. Apart from the US, GSSL plans to open offices in Germany and Japan.

 

Indo Asian Group's ERP plans to bank on Baan-Microsoft

The Indo Asian Group, manufacturers of safety control equipment and power protection equipment, has commissioned the Baan IVc for BackOffice Enterprise Resource Planing (ERP) solutions across its enterprise, thereby benefiting from a worldwide alliance between Baan and Microsoft Corp.

The Indo Asian group, which is currently implementing its aggressive expansion plans, has commissioned all the modules of the Baan IVc ERP solution -- manufacturing, distribution, logistics, finance, HR e and the like -- on the Intel hardware platform, with a Microsoft SQL server database. The installation is over 14 sites countrywide.

Indo Asian's innovative and dynamic approach to the management of its fast track expansion programme has enabled it to benefit from the global alliance between Baan and Microsoft. These two software majors will continue to collaborate on the specifications for future Microsoft enterprise-focussed technology. This will enable both companies to deliver innovative enterprise applications that provide business value to companies of all sizes while reducing complexity and total cost of ownership.

"The implementation of Baan IVc across our 14 sites will enable us to empower our people with up-to-the-minute information, from the point of receipt of a customer order to the point of collection payment," says V P Mahendru, chairman, Indo Asian Group. "Baan IVc will enable us to respond to our customers' needs with maximum efficiency, helping us to reach our target revenue of Rs 250 crore in 2001," he adds.

CBS bags 21 projects _ in spite of sanctions

Complete Business Solutions, a worldwide information technology consultant and service provider to large and medium organisations, reported that it has begun 21 new infotech service projects over the past four weeks. "We have seen no slowdown in our business flow," says Raj Vatikutti, president and CEO. "These new contracts represent more than $ 20 million in future revenues." Three of the projects will be fulfilled offshore, utilising our cost advantage there and the other 18 will be handled domestically in our US development centres or on-site at customer locations.

At Claremont, Technology Group Inc, with which CBSL announced a merger in April, an additional 12 projects have been closed over the past four weeks, the majority in IT consulting. "Our clients continue to be well distributed across various industries, including manufacturing, public sector, financial, healthcare, telecom and insurance," says Karen Fast, senior vice president of US operations for Claremont.

For 1997, CBSL's net revenue increased approximately 43 per cent to $ 194 million, from $ 135 million in 1996, both years restated for the acquisition of Synergy Software in November 1997 and C W Costello and Associates in January 1998.
