Gujarat State Fertilizers Company (GSFC) has chalked out a Rs-600 crore strategic expansion plan with a view to meet the growing demands of domestic and international market, according to the company chairman, Kanaksinh Magrola.
Talking to newspersons here on Saturday he said that identified projects included 1400-TPD urea expansion at its Nagar plant and three lakh tonne DAP expansion at Sikka.
Expansion work at the Rs-1,000 crore ammonia project and Rs 98-crore melamine project would be completed in the next couple of months and they were expected to go on stream this year, he added. GSFC managing director S K Duggal said the new ammonia plant, designed with the help of modern German technology, would have a capacity of 1350 metric tonnes per day (MTPD) and replace the two-and half-decade old ammonia plants based on obsolete technology.

The new plant would provide added impetus to fertilizer production with the urea production expected to increase from 3,00,000 MTPD to 4,00,000 MTPD.
Similar move is expected on the phosphatic fertilizer front with an additional production of 50,000 MTPA against the present level of 30,00,000 MTPA.
The plant would enable GSFC to save the cost on energy consumption, operation and maintenance, Duggal said.
The company has already commissioned expansion of mekoxime, setting up of nylong-6 compounding facility and setting up an off-shore chemical storage terminal at Sikka near Jamnagar.
He said GSFC has achieved a landmark turnover of Rs 1,890 crore during the year, the highest in the last 34 years, despite the sluggish corporate performance.
