Hasty Conclusion

A K Srivastava BSCAL

This refers to the news item on MMTC (February 6). The CBI action referred to in the report was the result of a case registered in Mumbai and had no relevance whatsoever to the commercial activities of MMTC. No official of the MMTC was questioned formally or informally about any of the files relating to MMTC.

Your reporter was advised by our ED (vigilance) to get in touch with CBI as MMTC was not aware of the details of this advice. The reporter has rushed to absurd conclusions without any basis whatsoever, revealing once again the bias in your reporting on matters relating to MMTC.

Our correspondent replies: The report makes it clear that several senior officials of MMTC, including the CMD, S N Malik, were contacted. However, he preferred not to respond to my call though I had left behind my phone numbers. In fact, the director, finance, P N Sharma, had even denied at first that the CBI officials had paid a visit to the office.
