Hcl Comnet, Sify In Talks On Virus Solution

HCL Comnet Systems & Services Ltd, a part of the $650 million HCL Group, is in talks with Satyam Infoway and other Internet service providers(ISPs) to bundle anti-virus solution from Trend Micro, one of HCL's strategic partners for secured content.
The concept of bundling effective anti-virus solutions with Internet packages is gaining currency in the wake of growing virus attacks over the Net.
E-secure is currently the fastest growing division within HCL Comnet, the two other divisions being e-commerce and e-network which cover the entire spectrum of networking technologies.

The e-secure division is targeting the anti-virus or content security market in the country which is still evolving.
The current market size of this content security is estimated to be between Rs 35 to 40 crores with few big operators and is still way behind market for fire walls which has matured considerably, said, Swapan Johri, business head, enterprise networks, HCL Comnet. "During the current year around half a dozen new content security firms are likely to spring up," he said.
HCL Comnet currently claims to have over 150 clients across the country. "Currently India is not as prepared as the West but the awareness about e-security is expected to shoot up during the year given the global security breaches taking place," said Hanif Sohrab, business manager, E-Secure.
E-Secure has entered into a slew of strategic tie ups with a number of global technology firms dealing in content security, and provides a whole range of security solutions combining their various strengths.
Some of the major technology alliances are with ISS, CheckPoint, RSA Security, StoneSoft, Trend Micro, GlobeSet, Web Secure and Web Trends covering areas like intrusion detection, firewalls, public key infrastructure (PKI), content security, secured electronic transaction, and net bandwidth management etc.
"We are currently in talks with some of our partners to expand our alliances to jointly provide service offerings catering to the global market," Johri said.
HCL Comnet solutions currently come the broad E-Secure umbrella and plans are on to work out new marketing strategies.
As per the current operations, the Vsat and hardware unit will be under e-network while a large number of solutions and services are under the e-secure division. HCL Comnet has positioned itself to address the end-to-end enterprise wide networking solutions and services which includes a four layered structure of providing connectivity, security, managing networks on which the fourth layer of e-business functions.
E-Secure will provide consultancy to help organisations become aware of their security needs covering areas such as enterprise network security, internal security for banks, E-commerce and security for ISPs.
