Consumer products giant Hindustan Lever Ltd (HLL) is to turn in strong results for calendar 1997, buoyed by sharp growth in new product areas and consolidation in existing businesses, analysts said on Tuesday.

They forecast the Indian subsidiary of Anglo-Dutch conglomerate Unilever Plc would report net profit in the range of Rs 530 to 550 crore and turnover between 7,800 crore and Rs 8,112 crore when it unveils results on Thursday.

The firm posted a net profit of Rs 414 crore and net sales of Rs 6,600 crore in calendar 1996. The results are expected to be very good, considering the slowdown in the economy, said Swapna Naik, analyst at HSBC Batlivala & Karani Securities, who forecast an almost 33 per cent rise in HLLs 1997 net profit.

Parent company Unilever on Tuesday reported pre-tax profits, before exceptional items, virtually flat from 1996s
