Italian Premier Stresses On Cluster Approach

This was conveyed to the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) delegation which called on the Italian Prime Minister in Rome last week.

The Prime Minister endorsed the joint task force set up by CII and its Italian counterpart, the Confederation of Italian Industries (Confindustria), to focus on the priority sectors and opportunity areas for trade and industrial co-operation between the two countries.

The taskforce will submit its report to the prime ministers of the two countries in six months.

Prodi urged the taskforce to identify the areas where Italian companies could assist, like woodwork, marble, granite, leather and automobile parts.

 

Confindustria will decide on the Italian members of the taskforce in 10 days.

Ashok Leyland managing director R Shahaney will be the co-chairman of the taskforce.

During discussions with the Italian Prime Minister, the CII team agreed to adopt the Italian experience of disinvestment and privatisation as a model.

Shekhar Datta informed Prodi that a workshop will be conducted in India which will see participation of Italian experts and members of the newly-constituted disinvestment commission. The CII proposed an Italian technology park or Italian house, as in Singapore and Germany.
