Lacklustre Trend Prevails

The trading on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) remained lacklustre yesterday with the Nifty closing 8.10 points lower at 1074.65 against the previous close of 1082.75.
The market moved in a narrow range and opened at 1082.95, touched a high of 1082.95, went to a low of 1071.55 before closing at 1074.65.

The Midcap index closed at 1133.30 against the previous close of 1132.35, a gain of 0.95 points. Sources said the market will move in a narrow range and might fall today, as it is the last day of the current settlement.
Among the top five gainers trading were ICICI which closed at Rs 76.90 (Rs 75.10), HDFC Rs 3393.90 (Rs 3319.85), MTNL Rs 277.60 (Rs 273.10), Cochin Refineries Rs 165.80 (Rs 163.25), and BSES Rs 243.85 (Rs 240.15).
Among the top five losers were ACC which closed Rs 1053.60 (Rs 1129.60), Reliance Capital Rs 45.10 (Rs 47.90), Bhel Rs 410.40 (Rs 429.55), Asean Brown Broveri Rs 620 (Rs 645.35) and Essar Steel Rs 11.95 (Rs 12.35). The Reliance scrip hogged the limelight and the scrip closed at Rs 309.90 against the previous close of Rs 308.15.
According to sources, the hectic activity in the Reliance counter is mainly due to speculative activity, The punters are active at this counter. The speculators were active in the ITC scrip in the previous week and now they have decided to take on RIL, informed a NSE dealer.
Hectic trading was also witnessed in State Bank of India (Rs 217.59 cr), Telco (Rs 116.17 cr), Tisco (Rs 54.18 cr), Hind Lever (Rs 17.65 cr), Larsen & Toubro (Rs 12.48 cr), Tata Tea (Rs 10.51 cr), Bank of India (Rs 8.53 cr), Hindalco (Rs 7.66 cr), Castrol (Rs 7.21 cr), ONGC (Rs 6.01 cr), Infosys (Rs 4.63 cr), Bajaj Auto (Rs 4.5 cr), Industrial Development Bank of India (Rs 4.29 cr), Glaxo (Rs 4.19 cr), IPCL (Rs 3.68 cr), Lakme (Rs 3.33 cr), Colgate (Rs 2.72 cr).
The total traded turnover at the RIL counter during yesterdays trading was Rs 357.78 crore. The ITC scrip closed at Rs 485.40 against the previous close of Rs 483.05. The total traded turnover touched Rs 290.92 crore.
