Mahendra Kampani Dies In Car Crash

BSCAL

Mahendra Kampani, former Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) president and sitting member of the BSE governing board, died yesterday following a car accident. He was 58.

Kampani was widely regarded as a pioneer in stock market reforms, particularly on-line trading and was a partner at Jamnadas Morarjee & Co, amongst the oldest trading firms in the country.

A resident of Firdauz building in south Mum-bais posh Marine Drive locality, Kampani was returning home from his daily early morning walk when he was hit by a speeding taxi.

He succumbed to an internal brain injury from the resulting fall, sources said, adding that he was declared dead when rushed to the nearby Bombay Hospital.

Stock broking circles were shocked by the sudden news of Kampanis death which spread during early morning trade. Surprisingly, while trading at the BSE continued throughout its normal session till 3.30 pm yesterday, the exchange has announced that trading will commence an hour later at 11.00 am today.

Kampani, who had faced heart problems in recent years, juggled a busy schedule of managing the brokerage and working with several committees on the exchange.
