Marginal Gains

BSCAL

Heavy weighted shares picked up on the stock market yesterday due to hectic buying by foreign institutional investors and bull operators. Prices closed with small to notable gains spread over a wide front. However, a few shares along with Reliance Industries were neglected as buying was confined to select counters and lost ground.

Marketmen said the rising trend in the Reliance shares was short lived as speculators and profit-takers sold part of their position in this counter. The total business done on this counter was less than half from the previous day at 38.28 lakh shares and most of the transactions were of profit selling type, they said.

The benchmark of the Delhi Stock Exchange, sensitive index jumped up by 12.08 points to settle at 883.81 points. ACC was in keen demand and rose by Rs 65.90 to close at Rs 1405.90 on persistent buying by domestic financial houses coupled with speculators. HLL was the star performer with its shares gaining Rs 40 at Rs 1395 on hectic buying by FIIs and bull operators.
