Mp, Siemens Sign Infotech Pact On Forestry

Siemens Information Systems Ltd (SISL) and the Madhya Pradesh forestry department signed an agreement on Monday to implement a computer-based forest management information system.
Forest management information system is an integrated system with two main subsystems, a monitoring information system (MIS) and a geographic information system (GIS).
While Siemens will have the overall responsibility for implementing the pilot project on a turnkey basis over an 18-month period, the MIS will be developed by Siemens in partnership with Force/Robak Associates Ltd (FRA), Canada, an information technology company specialising in forestry.

The GIS subsytem will be implemented by Siemens using CARIS software from Universal systems Ltd, Canada. SISL along with FRA will do a system requirements and definition study for 13 departments of the Madhya Pradesh forestry department. Based on this study, pilot projects will be implemented for decision support systems towards evolving an integrated FMIS.
The Madhya Pradesh forestry department has earmarked three focus areas for the pilot project - working plan/micro plan, production and plantation and development.
