Rs 2,100 Crore Annual Plan For Punjab Approved

The Planning Commission has approved an annual plan of Rs 2,100 crore for Punjab for 1997-98, up by more than 13 per cent over the previous year's plan of Rs 1898.81 crore.

This was decided at a meeting between Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission Madhu Dandwate and the Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal inDelhi on Friday.

Badal was accompanied by the state finance minister Kanwaljit Singh and senior officers of the state government.

In a press release.after the meeting, the Chief Minister said the major thrust areas in the approval plan are agriculture, rural development, irrigation, industry, besides health, education and employment generation programmes.

 

The Planning Commission has agreed to give a special assistance of Rs 100 crore for the completion of Punjab's prestigious Thoin Dam Project, expected to be completed by 1999.
