Russian Communists Vow To Oust Yeltsin

Russia's communists, trying to re-invigorate their public image, turned to Bolshevik-style rhetoric on Sunday in their battle against President Boris Yeltsin and his new government.

One resolution passed at their congress said the country was being turned into a 'semi-colony' of international capitalism.

Others called for mass protests on May 1 and 9, which could lead to a general strike.

The communists, who have the biggest faction in the State Duma lower house, were meeting for their first congress since early 1993 and were quick to attack Yeltsin.

'Political manouvering by the government, changes of ministers, endless promises and assurances cannot conceal the essense of the authorities' actions
