Shares Gain On Buying Interest

Equities on the National Stock Exchange (NSE), mainly bank and software scrips, firmed up following fresh buying interest at select counters. The NSE-50 (Nifty) index ended the day at 1054.05, gaining 9.65 points over the previous close of 1044.40.

The index opened the day at 1043.70, moved up to an intra-day high of 1055.40, touched a low of 1039.80 before ending the day at 1054.05. The total traded value at the bourse was Rs 875.38 crore with 457.78 shares changing hands.

The NSE Midcap gained 20.41 points over the previous close to end the day at 1125.50. Marketmen said that trading sentiment was fairly strong as the market seemed to be coming to terms with the impending oil price hike. According to leading brokers, brisk activity was seen at counters like Bank of India, Oriental Bank, HLL, Thomas Cook, Exide, Hero Honda and Bata.

 

They also added that the FIIs were aggressively buying bank scrips and select software scrips.

Among the bank scrips , Bank of India, Bank of Punjab, Oriental Bank, Bank of Rajasthan, Federal Bank, HDFC bank and Global Trust bank were among the most actively traded scrips. Bank of India recorded a turnover of Rs 40.73 crore and was fourth active scrip in terms of turnover.

Software scrips firmed up following reports of software exporting companies being exempted from the purview of MAT.
