Telco Offers New Transport Buses To Dtc

BSCAL

Commuters in Delhis city buses will experience the comforts of travelling in the Grey Hounds of the US if the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) decides to go in for the sleek low-floor city buses produced by Tata Engineering & Locomotive Company (Telco).

Telco has already made a proposal to sell the 46-seater buses to DTC and is awaiting a response. The buses, priced at Rs 10 lakh each, are longer than the normal transport buses. Their features include the absence of a chassis frame and a rear engine. Besides, the seats at the back are placed at a higher level than the ones in the front.

The new bus is one of the six vehicles the company plans to launch in the next six months. Others are an 18-seater luxury bus, a medium commercial vehicle and modified versions of Tata Safari, Sierra Turbo and Tata Estate.

The 18-seater luxury bus, priced at Rs 8 lakh, is targeted at the upper end of the public transport system, such as, executive travel from the airport to hotels.

The bus is air-conditioned and fitted with the Tata Cummins Engine. It has a central bell system and its interiors resemble the insides of an aircraft. Telcos latest medium commercial vehicle, LPT 1012, also has a Tata Cummins Engine and costs about Rs 4.5 lakh. The modified versions of Tata Safari, Sierra Turbo and Tata Estate are on display at the Indian Engineering Trade Fair. Telco officials said certain technical changes had been made in these vehicles.
