Trading Code Must For Smes On Net

BSCAL

To facilitate e-commerce for items produced by the small and medium scale enterprises, the government should develop a code system and set up a specification standard.

While launching his two websites www.indiatradeshow.com and www.indianpurchase.com, targeted at the SMEs, chairman of Indianpurchase.com Infoware Ltd Yogendra Kumar Modi said they would take up the issue of developing a systematic coding system and specification of standards with the small-scale industries ministry.

"Coding system helps specify the attributes of an industrial product along with price and quality specifications and without this, e-commerce cannot be initiated in the SME sector," he said.

The B2B industrial portal, indianpurchase.com, which claims access to over three lakh industrial manufacturers and service providers, facilitates online contact between manufacturers and users of 1,500 items, providing a platform for SMEs to access new markets, reduce costs and improve customer services. Elaborating upon the portal, Modi said indianpurshase.com was willing to provide database on companies in the sector to the government.

The other website, indiatradeshow.com _ a virtual trade show site _ would showcase multiple trade shows, besides co-hosting other physical trade exhibitions. The portal will provide a near real-life experience of visiting diverse trade shows of industrial and consumer products.

Indiatradeshow.com provides an interactive format using mediums such as 3-D effect, audio marketing attachments and video clippings.

"From the existing hits of 40,000 to 50,000, we hope to increase it by a six times in the next six months. We hope to break even in four months," said Anupama Modi, executive director, Indianpurchase.com Infoware Ltd.
