Trading Sentiment Firm On Speculative Trend

The trading sentiment at the National Stock Exchange (NSE) remained firm during yesterday's trading. However, the NSE-50 index closed marginally lower by 3.85 points at 1082.75 against the previous close of 1086.60.
The midcap index closed at 1132.35 against the previous close of 1133.30. According to sources, yesterday's rally was more speculative in nature. "Though the foreign institutional investors are back in the market, yesterday's rally was essentially driven by the punters. However, the FIIs are active in select counters in the A group," informed a NSE dealer.

The total traded turnover at the exchange during yesterday's trading touched Rs 1,287 crore with nearly 5.07 crore shares changing hands.
Oil scrips hogged the limelight during yesterday's trading with almost all the major scrips in this sector closing higher than yesterdays levels. The Spic counter witnessed hectic activity. The ITC scrip closed at Rs 483.05 against the previous close of Rs 484.10. The Reliance scrip closed at Rs 308.15 as against the previous close of Rs 310.75. The traded turnover at the exchange touched Rs 300.51 crore.
Among the top five gainers during yesterday's trading were Great Eastern Shipping which closed at Rs 34.50 against the previous close of Rs 32.35, ICICI which closed at Rs 75.10 (Rs 70.55), Cochin Refineries which closed at Rs 163.25 (Rs 154.20), IFCI which closed at Rs 26.90 (Rs 26.05) and IDBI which closed at Rs 93.30 (Rs 91.95).
Among the top five losers were ACC which closed at Rs 1129.60, against the previous close of Rs 1179.25, Andhra Valley which closed at Rs 89.25 (Rs 92.45), MTNL which closed at Rs 273.10 (Rs 281.20), BHEL which closed at Rs 429.55 (Rs 440.60) and EIH closed at Rs 398.25 (Rs 407.10)
