Volumes Decline On Lack Of Buying Support From Fiis

Pivotal prices declined on lack of buying support from financial institutional investors and common investors on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) yesterday. The volume of business was low compared to the previous session.

The NSE-50 Index opened at the intra-day high of 927.31 points, touched a low of 897.23 and closed at 909.29 points, suffering a loss of 17.07 points over the previous close of 926.39 points. The net traded value was Rs 972.31 crore, net traded quantity was 483.62 lakh shares.

Hectic activity was observed in ITC (Rs 254.51cr), SBI (Rs 245.26 cr), Tisco (Rs 184.31 cr), Reliance Indus (Rs 125.96 cr), Larsen and Toubro (Rs 32.47 cr), ACC (Rs 28.23 cr), BSES (Rs 15.47 cr), Telco (Rs 9.43 cr), MTNL (Rs 7 cr), Bajaj Auto (Rs 6.14 cr), Hind Lever (Rs 4.66 cr), Gujarat Ambuja (Rs 3.45 cr), Oriental Bank (Rs 3.51 cr), the Bank of Rajasthan (Rs 3.03 cr), IPCL (Rs 2.92 cr), Tata Power (Rs 2.91 cr), ICICI (Rs 2.48 cr), Orchids Chemical (Rs 2 cr), VSNL (Rs 1.99 cr), BHEL (Rs 1.87 cr), BPCL (Rs 1.51cr), East India Hotels (Rs 1.36 cr), Punjab Wireless (Rs 1.26 cr), Steel Authority Rs 1.18 cr) and Wockhardt Ltd (Rs 0.88 cr).

 

The top gainers included Orton Synthetics, Rama Vision, Modi Cement, Ponni Sugars and Chemicals, Duncans Industries, while, losers were Varun Seacon, Atash Industries, Bihar Alloys Steel, Kings-International, Aqua and Prag Bosimi Synthetics.

Shares suffered further setback on continued selling spree from FIIs and general investors on the Over the Counter (OTC) Exchange of India. The OTC index closed at 100.05 points over its previous close of 100.63 points, decreasing by 0.58 points. The total turnover on OTC was Rs 40.89 lakh, involving 1.57 lakh shares and debentures. Major contribution was from the listed equities segment contributing Rs 26.67 lakh.
