Volumes Shoot Up To Touch Rs 365.68 Crore

Trading in the wholesale debt market segment of the National Stock Exchange picked up yesterday with the volumes shooting up to Rs 365.68 crore from Rs 11 crore on Thursday. Dealers attributed the rise in the turnover to the easy call rates.

The 91-day treasury bills and the short and the medium term securities remained in the limelight.

The three-month paper maturing on May 3, 1997 saw deals for Rs 55 crore struck at 7.82 per cent yields. The deals, which are to be settled after one day, were concluded at Rs 98.22.

Among the medium term securities which were actively traded were the 13.50 per cent gilt maturing in 1998, the 12 per cent gilt maturing in 1999, the 13.40 per cent gilt maturing in 1999 and the 13.70 per cent gilt maturing in 1999. The 12 per cent gilt maturing in 1999 saw deals to the tune of Rs 25 crore struck at 12.60 per cent yields. The transactions, which are to be settled the same day, were traded at Rs 99.78.

 

The short term 13.50 per cent gilt maturing in 1997 witnessed trades to the tune of Rs 22 crore struck at 10.49 per cent yields. The deals are to be settled the same day.

The 13.40 per cent central government security maturing in 1999 was dealt for Rs 40 crore at 12.86 per cents. These deals are to be settled the same day.
