Accenture sets up centre for Sun

Accenture, the $16.65 billion global management consulting and technology services firm, has partnered Sun Microsystems to set up an innovation centre in Bangalore.

The centre will develop solutions based on Sun Microsystems' technologies, to cater to specific market needs, the company said here on Wednesday.

Initially started with about 100 professionals, the innovation centre is a part of Accenture's global partnership with Sun Microsystems, announced in September last year.

Alastair MacWilson, managing director, Global Security Practice, Accenture, said apart from creating custom solutions, the centre would also focus on building repeatable, secure identity-enabled and SOA-based solutions for global clients, especially in government, financial and telecom sectors.

Accenture recently announced an investment of $450 million in R&D, training and building industry-based solutions in the SOA area.

Said Sandeep Arora, lead executive, Accenture Delivery Centre for Technology, India, "The setting up of the Accenture Innovation Centre for Sun Microsystems' solutions in India is in line with Accenture's strategy to further leverage India as an innovation hub for building industry-specific solutions and assets on leading technologies."

The employees at the Accenture Innovation Centre for Sun Microsystems Solutions would include engineers from both Sun and Accenture.

Besides, the Sun Software Academy will also train and mentor SOA and Identity Management architects from Accenture on the latest product offerings.

Presently, the centre is working on about 20 client projects. MacWilson said in the next 3-4 months, the centre would expand the capability to deliver more projects and would actively go to the clients across the globe.
