Avaya tastes success in Pune, plans spread

Doubling its capacity within nine months by inaugurating a new 45,000 sq ft facility in the city, Sal Mahbouba, vice-president, global services delivery (GSD) Avaya, a global provider of business communication applications, systems and services said, the company will continue to grow its operations in the city.
The Pune GSD is the second-largest centre for Avaya and one of the three major ones in the Avaya Global Services Delivery Organisation. The other two are in the US and Hungary.
"The new facility has a capacity of 270 people, thus taking our total capacity in Pune to 90,000 sq ft and 550 people," said Rajeev Shroff, Avaya area vice-president, GSD.
"The new centre will play a pivotal role in providing round-the-clock support to Avaya enterprise customers, authorised business partners, strategic alliance partners and Avaya Global Services teams worldwide as the company expands its 'follow the sun model'," said Mahbouba, while addressing a select press meet.
It may be recalled that the company had previously announced a $6-million investment in 2005-06, with intentions of doubling the same in the current fiscal. The company however refused to divulge its current investments and the future expansion plans in India.
Explaining that under "follow the sun model", the company allocates work according to the time zone and shift, "We moved with the critical areas first and now have 90 per cent of our total services and product lines present here," said Mahbouba adding, "The 10 per cent, which is not migrated is either language dependent, for small and medium enterprises or legacy systems, which are catered to from our satellite offices in other regions."
