Intex wants larger share of north market

Targeting the upcoming IT sector, Delhi-based Intex Technologies (India) Ltd is planning to increase its market share in the region. With an investment of Rs 5 crore, it has plans to manufacture more products in its Jammu unit.
 
The company specialises in manufacturing notebooks, personal computers, TFT-LCD monitors, DVD players, home theatre systems, peripherals and media storage, operating through 27 branch offices countrywide. Intex has a portfolio of more than 250 products is spread across 20 product categories.
 
"With the IT market expanding in the region we are getting into more towns and reaching to more customers. In the north, our presence is in 103 towns and now we plan to cover the tier-II and tier-III cities," Narendra Bansal, managing director, Intex Technologies India Ltd.
 
Bansal was in the city to launch the company's range of four laptop models, marking its foray in the notebook's segment .The laptops are Wi-Fi enabled and provides hi-end features.The price varies from Rs 27,000 to Rs 55000. The company plans to sell 12,000 laptop in the first year of operation.
 
He further added that there were huge untapped markets in other region of the country. At present, the company has its presence in 244 towns with a strong 744 distributor network in the country. By March 2007, it targets to cover an additional 256 towns and appoint another 450 distributors in India.
 
With a projected turnover of Rs 185 crore for the current fiscal, Intex aims to turn itself into a Rs 500-crore company by 2007-08.
 
"We see a compounded annual growth of 50 per cent,"said Bansal. According to him, the Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir belt contribute 12 per cent to the company's annual turnover.
 
Intex Technologies' unit in the Bari Brahmana industrial estate in Jammu is spread over 2 acres of land and the company is currently manufacturing subwoofers, desktop PCs, DVD players and UPS.
 
"We are substantially increasing the capacity and would add LCD monitors and even laptops in the next financial year. Also, digital cameras and Wi-Fi wireless products will be introduced," stated Bansal.
