Teracom bags Rs 104 cr order from BSNL

Press Trust of India New Delhi

Telecom transmission equipment maker Teracom today said it has bagged a Rs 104 crore project from state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) to enable a Fibre-to-the-Home network that will help the telco deliver high-speed voice, video and data services to subscribers.

BSNL will be the first telco in the country to deploy a Fiber-to-the-Home network, a type of broadband connection, on a commercial basis, Teracom said in a statement.

The company delivers applications for transmission of data, voice and video at a higher speed (in excess of 100 Mb/s).

BSNL's FTTH network would provide subscribers high-speed gaming, high-definition video conferencing and entertainment applications.

The telco plans to implement similar FTTH networks in 25 cities across India by the year 2012.

"We are very well-versed with the technology and are sure that it will help the operator to maximise their revenue," Puneet Jain, senior vice-president (corporate business), Teracom said.
