DGCA suspends AI pilot for allowing unauthorised person in cockpit

DGCA has suspended the licence of an Air India pilot by one year for allowing an authorised person in the cockpit of the Chandigarh-Leh flight earlier this month, an official statement said on Thursday. The licence of the Pilot-in-command has been suspended for one year while licence of the First Officer has been suspended for a period of one month, the DGCA said. Following the incident that took place on June 3, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) ordered grounding of both pilots pending investigation. As per DGCA safety norms, unauthorised people are not allowed to enter the cockpit, and any such entry could violate norms. On 03.06.2023, the Pilot in Command of M/s Air India flight AI-458 (Chandigarh Leh) allowed an unauthorized person into the cockpit during departure and the person remained in the cockpit throughout the flight, the DGCA said in the statement. Singapore Airlines promotes senior exec involved with AI-Vistara merger

Singapore Airlines on Monday announced the promotion of Tan Kai Ping, a senior officer extensively involved in the proposed merger of Air India and Vistara, to Executive Vice President of Operations and Chief Operations Officer. The merger between Air India and full-service carrier Vistara is a key plank of SIA's multi-hub strategy, the Singapore flag carrier said in a release on Monday. On November 29 last year, Tata Group announced the merger of the two airlines under a deal where SIA will also acquire a 25.1 per cent stake in Air India. Tan, who was extensively involved in the proposed merger of India's flag carrier and Vistara, also spearheaded the SIA Group's successful fundraising efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic. Air India launches second Mangaluru-Mumbai flight service starting June 10

Air India has strengthened the flight connectivity between Mangaluru and Mumbai by introducing a second daily flight from June 10. The development closely follows IndiGo's addition of a third daily flight on the Mumbai-Mangaluru route on May 22, an airport release here said. The two airlines now offer a combined total of five daily flights on this popular route. In 2022, the Mumbai-Mangaluru route emerged as the busiest, serving approximately 4.90 lakh passengers. The Air India flight (1679) departs Mumbai at 12.40 pm and arrives in Mangaluru at 2.10 pm. The return leg, AI (1680), leaves Mangaluru at 2.50 pm and reaches Mumbai at 4.35 pm. The inaugural flight of the service welcomed 182 passengers on AI (1679), while 167 passengers departed for Mumbai on AI (1680). Air India's Boeing aircraft that was grounded in Magadan in far east Russia landed in Mumbai on Saturday evening. The plane had taken off from Magadan earlier in the day after engineers rectified the oil system defect in one of the engines, according to the airline. On June 6, AI 173 operating from Delhi to San Francisco carrying 216 passengers and 16 crew members was diverted to the port city of Magadan in far east Russia following a mid-air glitch in one of the engines of the Boeing 777-200LR aircraft. All were stranded in the port city for two days and the replacement aircraft ferried them to San Francisco on June 8.
