The remand note issued by SIT during the arrest of alleged 'kingpin' of the Rs 3,200 crore Andhra Pradesh liquor scam accuses that top YSRCP leaders collected monthly kickbacks of Rs 5060 crore from liquor brands that were granted preferential treatment in sales through government-run outlets. The remand note of prime accused K Rajasekhar Reddy, alias Raj Kasireddy, an associate of former chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, alleges that the racket started in 2019 and "kickbacks collected each month were laundered" through hawala operators in Hyderabad, Mumbai and Delhi. However, the YSRCP on Saturday rejected these charges, criticising the TDP-led NDA government of orchestrating a politically motivated liquor scam narrative against party leaders and employing media propaganda to propagate it. The SIT had arrested the alleged kingpin and made a case for judicial custody of the accused in the remand note presented before a judge of a local court here on April 22. It alleges that th

The chief minister noted that there are ample opportunities to transform the city into a financial capital and a knowledge hub. "Visakhapatnam with the highest per capita income in Andhra Pradesh state will be a game changer in achieving Swarna Andhra," Naidu said addressing a meeting on the sidelines of inaugurating Andhra Medical College's centenary building. The prime accused in the alleged Rs 3,200 crore liquor scam during the erstwhile YSRCP regime has "confessed" that former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had endorsed him to chalk out an excise policy which would generate revenues for the state and party (YSRCP), said a SIT official in his remand report. However, the YSRCP rejected the charges, criticising the TDP-led NDA government in Andhra Pradesh for orchestrating a politically motivated liquor scam narrative against party leaders and employing media propaganda to propagate it. "During the confession, he (Kasireddy Raja Sekhar Reddy) stated that Jagan Mohan Reddy, the then chief minister, endorsed him to chalk out an excise policy by which more revenue is generated for the state enabling the government to use the same for welfare measures on one side and to get party fund on the other side," said the report. However, Reddy refused to sign his "confessional statement", it added. Reddy, who was arrested recently, has been ...

Amaravati, the planned capital of Andhra Pradesh, is set to create history as it targets to become the world's first city to be powered entirely by renewable energy as town planners look to build an ultra-modern yet environmentally sustainable 'people's capital'. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday appealed to the Sixteenth Finance Commission to raise the vertical devolution of central taxes from the existing 41 per cent to 50 per cent, besides support in rebuilding the state through special financial assistance. Naidu's appeal assumes significance as the TDP, which the AP CM heads, is a key ally in the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre. The support of TDP's 16 Lok Sabha members is crucial to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government. "Increase the vertical devolution share from 41 per cent to 50 per cent. Address the decline in horizontal devolution to southern statesfrom 24.3 per cent (10th Finance Commission) to 15.8 per cent (15th Finance Commission)," an official release quoted Naidu as requesting the commission.
